LAWRENCE — The Christmas holiday just got a littler cheerier for the McPherson College men’s basketball team.

After losing six straight after a splendid 6-2 start, the Bulldogs got back into the win column on Thursday with a 73-55 victory over Haskell.

Aaron Bachura came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with 16 points. Grant Raleigh scored 11. Their bench came up in a big way with several players contributing to the scoring.

The Bulldogs were outstanding on defense as they held Haskell to just 22 of 62 from the field, 5 of 26 from 3-point.

Mac returns to action on Dec. 31 when it plays at Baker.

“We needed that," Mac coach Tim Swartzendruber said. "I thought we guarded early and took them out of their offensive flow. We had a great stretch in the second half where we made a bunch of baskets and were able to open it up. I thought our bench was really big tonight -- Bachura, (Garrett) Owen, Taylor Ellison, (Ryan) O’Hara, (Grant) Munsen, (Careino) Gurley, all of the guys that played tonight really gave us quality minutes. I think that a strength of this team is our bench and it was great to see them come through tonight. It's obviously a great way to go into Christmas break. Certainly we feel like we've competed with some other good teams. It's good to go into break on a positive note."
