WINFIELD — 34 points is normally a really good first half for McPherson High’s girls.
On Friday, they accomplished that in the first quarter.
For the second straight game, the Bullpups floored their opponent from the outset, as they buried Winfield 34-4 in the first period and went on for a 77-26 victory to improve to 4-1 on the year, 2-0 in AVCTL Division III.
The Bullpups were pretty darn good in the second quarter as well they kept the foot on the gas for 23 points, ending the half with a jaw-dropping 57-11 lead.
It was cruise control in the second half as Bullpup coach Chris Strathman was able to substitute liberally and the game went to running clock in the fourth quarter.
The Bullpups unloaded for 11 3-pointers in the first half, with Taylor Robertson putting 27 of her 31 points on the board before intermission.
“The kids were really making the extra pass. The 3s were spread around. You can’t shoot like that every time, but it was sure fun to watch,” Strathman said.
Riley Hett also was in double figures for the Bullpups with 11 points. Ten Bullpups in all got into the scorebook.
The MHS JVs also had it working offensively with a 63-33 victory behind 16 points by Lauren Hein. Ten Bullpups entered the scoring column.
The MHS C-team was a 42-32 winner behind 15 points by Andrea Sweat and 14 by Cassie Cooks.
The Bullpups stay on the road Tuesday to take on Andover in the final game of 2016.
