Hesston's Esau earns high honor from Hutch

Hesston High’s Zach Esau has been named The Hutchinson News’ Offensive Football Player of the Year, according to today’s edition.

Esau threw for 2,927 yards and 30 touchdowns to help the Swathers to a Class 3A runner-up finish, losing in overtime to Rossville in the state championship game.

He also rushed for 1,073 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Esau was also a member of The News’ Super 11. Teammate Zach Vogt made second-team  Super 11.

Third-team picks included McPherson’ Casen Hoover and Smoky Valley’s Beck Elliott.

Former Bethany College head coach Jamie Cruce, now at Pratt, was named the Area Coach of the Year after leading the Greenbacks to the Class 4A state title.
