ANDOVER — McPherson High's girls are developing into knockout artists.

For the third straight game, the Bullpups delivered a devastating 1-2 first-half punch as they parlayed a 39-12 halftime lead into a 61-29 victory over Andover on Tuesday to finish the December portion of the schedule at 5-1.

"We wanted to keep some momentum going," MHS coach Chris Strathman said. "The last three games, especially in the first half, we've been really sharp. The effort has been good, the sharing of the basketball has been good. Shots from 3 didn't go down quite like they did at Winfield, but I was still clapping for good offense. Those are shots we want to take."

Taylor Robertson and Mandi Cooks delivered big, with Robertson scoring 31 points and Cooks adding 13. Robertson was the recipient of many outstanding passes as she spent much of the game shooting layups, but she also found time to drain 5 3-pointers and missed only twice from beyond the arc.

Cooks came out and scored MHS' first 6 points and was active on the defensive end as well. She made some nice shovel passes on the inside to Robertson for easy finishes.

"Mandi scored a little more than she has been the last couple of games which is really good, but she had a couple really, really nice assists," Strathman said. "That backcut to Taylor, that little handoff, that was very nice."

The Bullpups' defense was stifling as Andover was held to just 9 of 31 from the field. The Trojans, just like Winfield and Abilene in the two previous games, had no answer for MHS' tremendous pressure.

The MHS JVs continued their amazing winning streak, now at 52, as they drilled the Trojans, 58-28. Eleven Bullpups scored, led by Megan Eisenbarth with 12 and Lakyn Schieferecke with 10.

MHS’ C-team doubled the Trojans, 60-30. Cassie Cooks powered inside for 20 points, Andrea Sweat tallied 12 and Ashlie Stout added 10.

The Bullpups go to Buhler in their first game back from the Christmas break.
