McPherson’s Mayor Tom Brown issued a public statement this week for local residents as the New Year approaches and 2016 comes to an end.

“We want to wish everyone a happy 2017,” Mayor Brown said at Tuesday’s city commission meeting.

He continued addressing the public audience, drawing appreciative chuckles from those present. “Please get off on the right foot,” he quipped, “So that the guys in the black and white cars treat you nice on New Year’s Eve.”

City commission meetings typically meet every Monday morning at 8:30 in the city office building at 400 E. Kansas Ave. in McPherson. This week’s meeting met on Tuesday due to the holiday.

In related news, the city of McPherson has recently upgraded its government process and gone paperless. It now uses electronic technology for all board documents and agendas, which not only saves time and tax dollars, but also allows more time for the weekly meeting agendas to be viewed ahead of time online where they can be accessed by city officials and the public on the city’s website at

McPherson’s weekly commission meetings are always open for the public to attend.
