SALINA — McPherson College’s women and Northern New Mexico College both came out of the chute Thursday making shots from everywhere.

While the Bulldogs eventually cooled off, Northern New Mexico didn’t.

The Eagles used a 22-14 third quarter to grab the lead and then scored 25 more points in the fourth quarter to pull away for an 88-76 victory in the first day of the Kansas Coyote Classic.

Mac plays again today at 4:00 against Dakota State, which took host Kansas Wesleyan into overtime before losing 78-75, so the Bulldogs are definitely seeing quality opponents in these two days.

Mac, which made only one field goal in the first half at Mabee Arena when it played Kansas Wesleyan last month, had no such shooting woes early. The Bulldogs fired up with 26 first-quarter points, but only led by 3.

The Bulldogs still led 42-41 at the half, but the third quarter was their undoing.

Cami Richardson led the Bulldogs with 17 points and she also was the top rebounder with 8.

The loss was Mac’s sixth straight after a 7-2 start.

Mac (76) — Richardson 17, Racette 9, Battle 7, Coe 5, Holt 2, Zimmerman 9, Van Doselaar 8, Gonzalez 8, Harlow 7, Kuhn 4.

Northern New Mexico (88) — John 18, Clichee 17, Lucas 12, Corodva 6, Ruff 2, Artieda 15, Lackey 14, Myles 2, Pena 2.
