SALINA — There was no rust to knock off for McPherson’s eighth-grade girls on Thursday.
The Bullpups, despite a long layoff, never skipped a beat in a 45-9 rout of Salina Lakewood.
“The A-team got off to a great start, they came out very aggressive and had a 20-point first quarter and 15-point second quarter which put us up 35-0 in the first half,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “This team plays very well when we are able to play up tempo and get into our presses and speed teams up and create turnovers. Because of the score we had to pull back from the pressure and we lost our offensive rhythm. We need to continue to improve in our halfcourt offense.”
Emma Malm and Grace Pyle were on fire with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
The B-team also cruised, 33-16. Kenzee Godwin’s 14 points were tops.
“The B-team once again used their defense to create turnovers to get out and run,” Crawford said. “Several players scored, which showed how they shared the ball. It took a little bit for our traps to turn them over and once that happened then this group was able to pull away.”
Both MMS teams are undefeated at 7-0 and return home on Monday to take on Salina South.
MMS A (45) — Beam 5, Kynaston 8, Pyle 15, Malm 17.
MMS B (33) — Berlanga 2, Byrd 2, Myers 3, Berg 5, Yowell 7, Godwin 14.
