BURLINGTON — Only tourney host Burlington finished ahead of McPherson High’s wrestling team on Saturday.

Burlington scored 216 1/2 points in the invitational to outlast MHS (173) in a 22-team field that included many schools from Southeastern Kansas.

Rhett Edmonson (2-1) at 106, Austin Eldredge (3-1) at 138 and Alex Perkins (2-1) at 195 were all second-place finishers. Ten Bullpups earned at least a Top 6 finish and everyone won at least two matches.

“Burlington was a tremendous team effort by every wrestler on the team,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “Everyone really wrestled extremely well. Edmonson, Eldredge and Perkins all took second, which were our highest placers, but (Seth) Morgan, both Crews (Landon and Brynton), EJ (Kretzer), (Scott) Radke, (Jonah) Clarke, (Mason) Thrash, (Luke) Thompson and (Bailey) Yarborough all were fantastic.”

MHS is back home on Thursday to take on El Dorado, which has been a Top 5-ranked team all season.
