After winning their first five games of the basketball season, the McPherson seventh-grade A-girls have now lost three in a row.
The Bullpups were edged 19-15 here Monday by Salina South in a low-scoring game. MMS led 7-4 at the half, but was held to 8 points in the second half.
Ella Schmid led the Bullpups with 6 points.
“We got a lot of looks tonight, but couldn't knock many down,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “It was a tough shooting night for both teams, and South caught fire in the second half and we were unable to match them. We will keep working on our shooting and working to be more consistent on defense.”
MMS lost the B-game 24-23 despite 10 points by Emily Whorton.
“The girls showed a lot of improvement and have picked up playing some pressure and man defense well,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “If we can improve on our halfcourt offense these girls will do really well come Thursday.”
The B-team is now 3-5.
MMS goes to Newton on Thursday.
MMS A (15) — Schmid 6, Doile 4, Labertew 3, Whorton 2.
MMS B (23) — Whorton 10, Courtney 7, Zeitlow 2, Unruh 2, Swanson 2.
