SALINA — It was a clean sweep for McPherson’s seventh-grade boys on Monday in basketball games with Salina South.
Seth Madron’s 25 points and 8 by Jayden Dukes led the A-team to a 44-35 victory.
“The best offense is a good defense and our defense is certainly what fueled our win tonight,” MMS coach Eric Burghart said. “We pestered Salina South to no end and created some great opportunities for ourselves. Parts of our offense looked much more dangerous and then we stalled in others. Some of that can be attributed to getting new guys in new positions, but mostly it’s a lack of focus on the task at hand. When we can narrow our focus on doing the small things correctly, the big things will take care of themselves.”
The B-team improved to 3-5 with a 35-21 victory. Brayden Conquest led a balanced Bullpup attack with 8 points.
“Our B-guys are starting to click,” Burghart said. “Our offense looked the best it has all season and the boys are seeing the court with better vision game after game. We still have some silly turnovers that need to be cleaned up, but overall this group has shown some improved practice habits and it’s helping us make strides in our game play.”
MMS is home Thursday to take on Newton.
