Elyria Christian Junior High’s girls basketball team played two full games and half of a third on Monday against Central Christian.
The Junior Eagles lost the A-game, 38-10. Ryland Hawkinson’s 4 points led Elyria.
“We knew coming into the game that Central Christian would be good and the Cougars didn't disappoint by starting the game with a 10-0 run,” Elyria coach Roger O’Neal said. “But after this we played them close for 2 1/2 quarters. We matched baskets the rest of the first quarter and half of the second and ended only down 18-6 at halftime. We were staying with Central during the third quarter, but we were outscored by 14 in the fourth quarter. Overall I was pleased with how our girls played. The next growing step for us will be for our girls to start believing that we can compete at this level.”
The B-team lost, 33-10. Hawkinson and Ashley Koehn scored 4 points apiece. The C-team played half a game, winning 8-2 with four players scoring 2 points apiece.
The Eagles’ A-team is 2-6, the B-team is 4-4 and the C-team is 4-0.
