AUGUSTA — So that's what 32 good minutes looks like.

McPherson High's boys put together their most complete game of the year on Tuesday as a potential land mine in their bid for another AVCTL Division III championship was sidestepped  with a 68-38 rout of Augusta, their third win in a row.

MHS went 5-0 for the first time through D-III and is now 6-3 overall heading into a probable donnybrook at home on Friday against Andale.

"That's as close to playing a complete game as we have had," MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon said. "I told them in the locker room I feel better about that. I knew we had a chance to be pretty good. Quite honestly, we weren't very good before Christmas and we have improved. I told them I'd be extremely disappointed if we didn't get better because that's what good teams do."

Kinnamon also knew he had a team that could shoot the 3-ball better than 2 of 16 as it did last Friday. It made 12 of 21 against the Orioles.

Mason Alexander drained six 3-pointers and scored 27 points, 22 of those during a 35-16 first half. "Mason obviously shot it extremely really well," Kinnamon said. "He's a very, very good shooter."

Then Ben Pyle and Jake Alexander took over in the second half. Pyle had only 5 points in the first half, but shook loose for 14 after the break for 19 and Alexander scored 11 of his 14 after intermission, making all three of his 3-point attempts.

"We do such a better job when we move the ball and it doesn't get stuck," Kinnamon said.

The Bullpups did a great job on 6-8 Jonny Clausing, who was effective early but finished with just 10 points, making just 4 of 12 shots.

The MHS JVs came away with an easy 57-32 victory behind 11 points by Brandon Wilson and Kyler Hoppes.

In the ninth-grade game, Cooper Courtney scored all 10 of his points in the first half, then Hayes Schmid scored all 14 of his in the third quarter as the Bullpups came away with a 51-39 success. Kvon Richardson also was in double figures with 11 points.
