The marathon KCAC basketball schedule reaches only the halfway point on Thursday when McPherson College journeys to Winfield to take on Southwestern.
Game time is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men. Join Voice of the Bulldogs Matt Cole for the call beginning at 5:55 on 96.7 KBBE-FM.
The women’s game has huge ramifications. Mac and Southwestern are two of six teams that are closely bunched together in the middle of the standings, with the Bulldogs 5-5 in the KCAC and the Moundbuilders 4-6.
Mac is coming off a 52-42 upset of Ottawa. The Bulldogs are just a game out of fourth place, but tied with Oklahoma Wesleyan and Saint Mary. After starting the year 7-2, the Bulldogs lost six straight, but now have won three straight.
Southwestern has hit the skids, having lost five games in a row. But the Builders feature Jordyn Miller, one of the KCAC’s best players.
In the men’s game, the Bulldogs are looking to pull an upset. Southwestern is 5-5 in the KCAC and 12-6 overall. It features Cameron Hunt, who is among the top scorers in the conference.
The Bulldogs are mired in a terrible slump. After starting the year 6-2, they have lost 9 of their last 10 to stand 7-11 on the year. They also have lost seven straight KCAC games since defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan and are just 1-9, in grave danger of missing the playoffs.
Mac stays on the road Saturday as it starts the second round of KCAC play at county rival Bethany College.
