NEWTON — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-girls snapped their three-game basketball losing streak on Thursday by swamping Newton, 38-12.
Ella Schmid led the Bullpups with 10 points. Eight Bullpups in all put a tally in the book. The victory improved MMS to 6-3 on the season.
“We had our most balanced game of the season tonight, with 8 out of 10 girls scoring,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “I thought our defensive pressure at the beginning of the game was much improved over the past few games.”
The B-team outscored Newton 15-0 in the first quarter on its way to a 33-8 success. Reiley Wells’ 10 points were tops as MMS is now 4-5 on the season.
“This game we drew back on how we played A-team players in the B-team game,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “Newton was a good team to do that against. We got a lot of great defensive hustle, but even with the score the way it was we need to play better on our set offensive plays.”
MMS is off until Thursday when it travels to Derby.
