McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys displayed balance on Thursday in routing Newton, 58-25.
Seth Madron (17), Jayden Dukes (12) and Aiden Hoover (11) all hit for double figures as the Bullpups are now 8-1 on the season.
“I asked our guys to jump on Newton early and they responded in a big way,” MMS coach Eric Burghart said. “I was very proud of our patience on offense and willingness to find the best shot. At the half it would've been easy for these guys to take their foot off the gas, but I liked our ability to enjoy the game while competing to the fullest. A stellar night shooting by our team as a whole forced Newton into different defensive looks in an attempt to slow us down. With four regular season games remaining, I look forward to seeing how this team can finish.”
Newton outlasted MMS in the B-game, 30-26. Michael Morgan and Ayden Johnson scored 6 points apiece as the Bullpups are now 3-6.
“Our B-guys were in another thriller, but came up just a bit short,” Burghart said. “Our offense really started clicking after the half and helped us make a furious comeback in the fourth, but a couple misses by us and some timely makes by Newton gave us the loss tonight.”
