Elyria Christian Junior High’s girls played 2 1/2 basketball games against Herington on Thursday.

The A-game was a low-scoring thriller with the Junior Eagles prevailing 13-12 in overtime. Lauren Aden’s free throw proved to be the game-winner as Elyria is now 3-6. Scoring was not listed.

“This was our best four quarters of defense this season,” Elyria coach Roger O’Neal said. “We held Herington scoreless in the first quarter and in the overtime and only gave up 2 points in the fourth quarter. We played 10 girls and pressed all but about 3 minutes of the game. Merrick Robertson played great defense inside in the second half and Lindzie Archer was great on our press and handled the ball for us on offense.”

Elyria lost the B-game 22-11 with Alexus Swanson scoring 5 points to lead the way. The B-team is now 4-5.

The C-team is now 5-0 after winning 8-2 in two-quarter game. Allie Stone scored 6 points.

Elyria goes to Goessel on Thursday.
