SV cagers win, lose at Sterling

STERLING — Smoky Valley’s boys bounced back from their disappointing overtime loss in the first round of the Sterling Invitational to defeat Lyons 48-40 on Wednesday in consolation action.

It was a slow start for the Vikings as they were down 9-5 after a quarter, but then scored 18 points to lead 23-17 at the half.

The Vikes went cold again in the third quarter with just 5 points, but outscored Lyons 20-4 in the final period.

Nick Reinert’s 14 points topped the Vikes and Jacob Adams added 10.

Smoky Valley will play for fifth place on Friday.

• Remington girls 52, Smoky Valley 32 — Remington’s girls bolted to a 16-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back to deal Smoky Valley a 20-point setback in the first round of the Sterling Invitational.

The loss drops the Vikings into today’s 3 p.m. game against Southeast of Saline.

Katie Bellah’s 8 points led the Vikings, one more than Jordan Otto.
