When Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team hosts Johnson and Wales at 8 p.m. Friday at Alexander Arena, it will take into the game a brand-new No. 8 national ranking in the NCCAA poll.
The Tigers have been blazing. Since starting the year with a 1-3 record, they have won 11 of their last 13 games to move to 12-5 and both losses were to nationally ranked teams in a tournament at Las Vegas. They are 4-0 since the beginning of January, averaging 99 points a game. Their signature win was a last-second road victory over Bethany on a Sam Clayborn basket.
Central is 2-2 in previous games against Johnson and Wales, losing last year’s game 73-70.
The Tigers then play Northern New Mexico at 6 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Arena. They teams have split their only two meetings in past play.
The Central women flip opponents. They’ll play Northern New Mexico at 6 p.m. Friday and Johnson and Wales at 4 p.m. Saturday. Central is 8-7 on the year.
The Tigers have lost their only previous game against Northern New Mexico. CCC is 1-1 lifetime against Johnson and Wales
