Mikey Chalupa was the smallest player on the floor for Blue Valley West, but he came up big.

The diminutive 5-8 senior scored 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as the Jaguars — just 2-5 entering the game — sent shockwaves through the McPherson Invitational in the second game of the day Thursday with a 62-58 upset of Wichita Heights, picked by many to win it.

After draining a trio of 3-pointers in the first half, Chalupa equaled that output in the second half, but also did some late damage at the free throw line by knocking down 6 of 7.

West will tangle with Manhattan at 6:30 p.m. Friday, while Heights drops into the Sunshine Bracket for a 3 p.m. matchup with Hutchinson.

The first half matched the 3-point prowess of Heights’ Anthony Collins against the Bunyan-strong Trey Lucas of West as they equaled each other with 12 points and the teams also were dead even at 32-all.

Heights asserted itself in the third quarter to lead by as many as 8 and still led by 5 going into the final stanza.

But West's Little Big Man was terrific over the final 8 minutes as Chalupa scored 11 points and directed the West offense with aplomb.

Lucas was a tower of power inside by muscling his way to 17 points and completed his double-double with 15 rebounds. West easily won the battle of the boards with a 35-20 rebounding advantage.

Tyrell Andrews led the Falcons with 20 points, while Collins was lost in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and never returned as he stayed stuck on 12.
