Jayden Dukes and Seth Madron scored 18 points apiece here Thursday and Aiden Hoover chipped in with 12 as McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys distanced themselves from Derby, 54-30.
The Bullpups are now 9-1.
“Another strong effort from this group,” MMS coach Eric Burghart said. “We started off a little sluggish on the offensive end and that's partly my fault as I have to do better to get these guys engaged, but as flat as we looked on offense our ability to pressure on defense kept us afloat. It was great to see Jayden taking what the defense gave him and finishing around the rim, Seth was his normal 'do-it-all' self, I thought Simon (Boese) did a great job of cutting and opening up spaces for others, Hoover was ferocious around the ball all night and Trey (Buckbee) did a good job of protecting the basket with a couple of well-timed blocks.”
The B-team lost 29-20 with Braeden Ediger’s 5 points leading a balanced offense. MMS is now 3-7.
“A slow first half put us in too big of a hole to climb out of,” Burghart said. “We finally came to life in the second half and we were able to compete, but our sense of urgency was too little too late. One of those sparking a fire in the second was Camdon James, we were very proud of the overall effort he played with and Jacob Scott showed great composure while he was in.”
