McPherson’s eighth-grade boys A-team outlasted Derby 35-29 here Thursday to improve to 6-4.
Jayton Alexander tallied 11 points and his cousin Max added 10.
“I'm extremely happy that we finished league play 5-1, which should gives us the No. 2 seed in our league tournament at the end of the year,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “I was proud of our guys, especially Jayton in the second half. We have played a lot of zone this year, which I'm not always a big fan of, and Jayton says to me let’s go man coach. He didn't have to ask me twice when he asked and they felt confident enough to go man. I thought we did some great things. Eli Pyle also fueled us with some great shooting in the second half. This gave us enough separation to close out the game. We will have an unbelievable task Monday though heading to Andover. They have one of those classes that coaches dream of. They have been punishing teams by over 20 points, so we will need to play our very best to stay in the game with them.”
The B-team is now 8-2 after a 41-24 success. Logan Ediger topped the scoring chart with 14 points.
“Our B-team, which also played outstanding tonight with a collective effort of almost everyone scoring, is playing really well right now,” Brown said.
