Tragedy has struck the Kansas City Royals as standout pitcher Yordano Ventura was fatally injured in a car accident Sunday in his native Dominican Republic, the team confirmed this morning.
He was 25.
Ventura helped the Royals to the World Series title in 2015 after the team had lost in the 2014 World Series to the San Francisco Giants.
Known for his fastball that topped out at 100 mph, Ventura was 38-31 in his career, starting 93 games. He was 27-18 in the Royals’ two World Series seasons.
