It was supposed to be one of the toughest tests for McPherson’s eighth-grade girls here Monday as Andover came to town.
After a close 5 minutes, the Bullpups exploded and went on for a 53-20 victory.
“The A-team came out and was tested early and they showed great grit to just stay after it and compete,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We have not been challenged much, so to see them reach deep and go to that extra gear was pretty awesome to see. We held them to 4 points in the second half and it was because of our willingness to sit in a stance and just flat-out guard. The toughness we played with is what we call the ‘Bullpup Way.’”
Grace Pyle led a three-pronged attack with 14 points, while Emma Malm scored 12 and Lexi Kynaston added 11.
The Bullpups are now 11-0.
The B-team scored the game’s first 36 points and went on for a 55-5 rout. Shelby Yowell’s 18 points led the way while Kenzee Godwin tallied 14 as the B-team is now 10-0.
“The B-team played very well, they started the game with two back-to-back 17-point quarters and shared the ball very well,” Crawford said. “Their defense continues to set the tone. Our defensive rotations were very good, we took them out of everything they tried to run. So proud of how tough we played and how physical we played.”
