Andover was no match for McPherson’s seventh-grade girls here Monday.
The Bullpups stormed to a 42-7 victory after leading 22-4 at the half. MMS improved to 8-3 on the season.
“The girls came out ready to play defense tonight,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “This game allowed us to work on a few new defenses. I thought the girls did a good job of looking for their shots and running the fast break.”
Peyton Howard’s 12 points led the Bullpups. Ella Schmid and Lauren Labertew chipped in with 10 apiece.
The B-team also was stingy in a 28-7 victory. MMS did not give up a point in the first quarter.
Harper Smith’s 8 points topped the Bullpups.
“The girls showed improvement in the areas we have been working on,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “Better passing, execution of plays and new defenses. With a good score, we were able to run our new plays and get the entire team a lot of playing time so everyone can see their strengths and areas to improve. I think the girls had fun, even when things were tough at times.”
MMS goes to Valley Center on Thursday.
