ANDOVER — In a wild offensive game Monday, McPherson’s eighth-grade boys were outscored 65-40 by undefeated Andover.
The loss dropped the Bullpups to 6-5. Jayton Alexander led MMS with 15 points.
“Andover lived up to all the hype, they were as good as advertised,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “From what I have heard that team has not lost in two years and I can see why. They had a player that could of arguably been one of the best players I've seen since coaching middle school basketball in McPherson and I've coached some great players along the way. Not only did they have the one standout, he was surrounded by four other players not far off of his own ability.”
The B-team enjoyed a 35-31 success as it’s now 10-3 on the season. Zac Butler topped the Bullpups with 13 points. Brown said it was a huge win.
“Extremely proud of the B-team,” Brown said. “They were able to give Andover their first loss in two years I believe. It was amazing going into the A- and B-game neither one of their teams had lost in almost two full seasons. But Zac led the way by shooting 100 percent from the free throw line (9 of 9) and adding two more field goals. Although unlike the A-game, the start was awful they had 0 points after the first quarter which makes this when even more amazing. Great team win.”
