VALLEY CENTER — It was another awesome defensive performance for McPherson’s eighth-grade girls on Thursday as they routed Valley Center, 43-8.

Emma Malm led the Bullpups with 15 points and Grace Pyle chipped in with 11.

“The A-team came out flat and still had a 15-point first quarter. We seem to play in spurts, but we sped Valley Center up at times and got out into the open court,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We did not hit shots that we had been knocking down, but we continued to stay in attack mode and that's when they play their best. Great to know that when they get in that rough stress they can dig deep and get things turned around.”

The Bullpups are now 12-0.

The B-team is now 11-0 after roaring past Valley, 54-15. Shelby Yowell was on fire with 25 points.

‘The B-team really came out and got off to a good start, they had a 21-point first quarter, 15-point second and 14-point third quarter,” Crawford said. “They have the ability to get up in passing lanes and create breakaway layups. They continue to pitch the ball ahead and allow their team to score, Our halfcourt offense has improved a lot.”

The Bullpups are home Monday to play Maize in the final regular-season game.

MMS A (43) — Alexander 1, Beam 8, Godwin 8, Pyle 11, Malm 15.

MMS B (54) — Alexander 1, Schwartz 2, Myers 3, Malm 4, Godwin 4, Pyle 4, Berlanga 5, Berg 6, Yowell 25.
