For one of the few times this year, the McPherson eighth-grade boys enjoyed a blowout victory as they sped past Valley Center 49-27 on Thursday.
Max Alexander scored 22 points as MMS improved to 7-5.
“The A-team got off to a slow start, but was able to settle into the game,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “We did an excellent job of adjusting to the officials and getting to the free throw line when in the bonus in the first half. I was also very pleased with our effort of getting our shot in the paint, especially when the 3-ball was not falling.”
The B-team is 11-3 as it outlasted Valley Center 28-24 as Aaron Powell topped the Bullpups with 9 points.
“The B-team did not play their best game today,” Brown said. “For whatever reason it always seems difficult to play two games in a row at a very high level. The B-team came off an excellent game and win in Andover then probably played one of our worst games. We just were very loose with the ball and didn't seam to ever be ourselves. But the good news is good teams still find a way to win and the guys did exactly that. Even though we were out of sink we stayed with it and were able to get the “W.”
MMS goes to Maize on Monday for the regular-season finale.
