MAIZE — McPherson’s eighth-grade boys had an offensive explosion on Monday during a 62-48 victory over Maize.
The Bullpups closed the regular-season portion of the schedule 8-5 after a slow start.
Even though the games are just 6-minute quarters, MMS piled up the points, led by Max Alexander with 32, while Jayton Alexander and Eli Pyle tallied 11 apiece.
“Even though we started slow, I felt like after the first quarter we settled in and played really well with 17 points in the second and third quarter and 20 points in the fourth quarter,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “Max played one of his best games. He went 9 of 10 from the free throw line and also got others on the team involved also with Jayton and Eli in double figures.”
The B-team finished 12-3 with a 53-43 success behind 16 points by Aaron Powell, 11 by Adam Elliott and 10 by Logan Ediger.
“I felt everyone this season that played minutes in the B-games contributed and got better from the beginning to the end of the season,” Brown said. “It’s fun to see guys that don't normally get in the score box get in it by the end of the year. Just confirms that we got better as a team. We moved the ball and believed in each other to get people open shots and players took advantage of it and put the ball in the hoop. The B-team had a fantastic season finishing the year 12-3.”
