McPherson’s seventh-grade girls again turned to their defense for their 10th victory in 13 games here Monday as they strafed Maize, 26-15.
Ella Schmid topped the Bullpups with 10 points.
“This was a great ending to the regular season,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “I am proud of the way we came out fired up on defense. I will say this was one of our best defensive efforts of the season. Our help-side defense was much improved. We also ran several set plays effectively. If we continue to play this hard, we will find success in the tournament starting Saturday against Salina South.”
The B-team closed its year with a 6-7 record after a 21-12 loss. Reiley Wells and Rhian Swenson scored 4 points apiece.
“It was a fun season and the girls grew a lot in all facets of the game,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “Tough way to end the season, but they fought the whole way. We hope all the girls enjoyed their season and will come back for more as 8th-graders.”
