MAIZE — McPherson Middle School’s wrestling team split against Newton and Andover on Tuesday, its two opponents as part of a quad hosted by Maize.

The Bullpups’ win came against Newton (44-42), while they lost to Andover (57-39).

“We knew that going into these two duals that we were going to have our hands full, MMS coach Kaden Kretzer said. “Newton and Andover both beat us at the Valley Center Invitational on Saturday. Our win over Newton was an absolute nailbiter, but we barely came out on top. Our loss to Andover was a bit of a different story, they have a very solid team with a lot of kids out, so we were playing catch up most of the dual. I am still pretty impressed with how things turned out against them I thought we showed a lot of fight.”

Next MMS action is Feb. 9 at Derby.
