One basketball player going over 1,000 points for a career is a great feat, but for it to happen for two in the same night is unprecedented.
On a night the No. 5-ranked Central Christian College men’s basketball team was winning its 10th game in a row against Haskell, Tiger seniors Daniel Nwosuh and Sam Clayborn both reached the 1,000-point mark in their careers on Wednesday.
Three current Tigers are over the 1,000-mark for their careers as Michael Gholston passed the mark long ago as he’s the all-time leading scorer in CCC history.
“Sam and Daniel’s achievements by eclipsing 1,000 points for their career is just another footprint their class will leave behind,” CCC coach Tony Romero said. “Both of these guys have been so loyal to me, our program and our school. They both enjoy being coached and are good teammates. It's special that both of these guys did it together, they are usually the two setting others guys up and are one and two in assists on our team, so for them to get to 1,000 points on top of all those assists makes it even sweeter.
“We have three guys we brought in as freshmen get to 1,000. Ernest (Burton), in his third year as a transfer, is close and Zo (Alonzo Stafford) would have got it in another game (14 points shy) if he would have been granted his third year. To me, that is pretty amazing to have that many guys at one time get there. It shows how unselfish our guys are and that the team is what matters, not the individual. I am blessed to coach them.”
