LITTLE RIVER — Little River proved to be a thorn in the side of the Elyria Christian School Junior High boys basketball team.

Little River defeated Elyria 49-36 on Saturday to win the Wheat State League tournament. Ben Unruh had a terrific game for the Junior Eagles with 15 points.

The first quarter decided the game when Little River rocketed to a 17-7 lead.

“There's no getting around it. Little River is a great basketball team,” Elyria coach Shawn Stucky said. “We had only three losses this season, all to Little River. We were plagued with foul trouble tonight, but we held our ground throughout the entire game and didn't let them run away with it. My guys have had a great season. They are the true picture of teamwork and balanced effort on the court. They have much to be proud of.”

Elyria had defeated Canton-Galva 44-27 in the semifinals. An 11-2 second-quarter burst broke the game open and the Junior Eagles finished strong with a 14-6 fourth quarter.

Josef Hobson scored 12 points and Bret Anderson had 10.
