PARAGOULD, Ark. — Eleven and counting.
Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team is now 11-0 in 2017 as it improved to 19-5 overall on Saturday with a 76-64 victory over Crowley’s Ridge College, which played the Tigers much tougher than the 121-72 first meeting.
The 11 straight wins is the most for CCC since it became a four-year school.
Jubril Osagie powered the No. 5-ranked Tigers with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Michael Gholston was held well below his average, but still added 13 points, the same as super sub Ernest Burton.
Free throwing was huge for CCC as the Tigers made 22 of 26, with Osagie making 8 of 9.
Central led 43-23 at the half, but somewhat took its foot off the gas in the second half.
“Despite the win, I really felt we got outworked today,” CCC coach Tony Romero said. “For most of the game, they were the aggressors. I don't like our chances most nights when your opponent has 21 more chances to score than you do. We need to take things more personal for the full 40. We had a decent start but then struggled to keep our rhythm."
After five games covering some 2,000 miles, the Tigers are finally home again on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game with Union College.
Central (76) — Warren 4, Osagie 22, Clayborn 5, Nwosuh 8, Gholston 13, Lenard 9, Kuminga 2, Burton 13.
Crowley’s Ridge (64) — Bernard 14, Culbreath 12, Niswonger 10, Summers 9, Moore 11, Graves 6, Dorsey 2.
