Baseball Tigers finish weekend 3-1

WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Central Christian College’s baseball team swept Southwestern Assembles of God on Saturday to win three of four games in the Tigers’ season-opening series.

Central won the opener 12-5 and the nightcap 16-9.

“We had a great day today," CCC coach Derk Kremer said. "We played well in all aspects of the game. We will get back at it on Monday to get prepared for next weekend against Benedictine College."

In Game 1, the Tigers scored their 12 runs on just six hits. Troy Carrigan had two hits and three RBIs, while Mario Rivera had two hits and two RBIs. Reggie Thomas toiled on the mound and picked up the win.

Zane Howard had a big Game 2 as he homered, had two other hits and drove in two runs. Caleb Gorman had two hits and three RBIs, while Nate Patterson drove in two runs. Carrigan and Shomari Cann added two hits.

Landon Stevens was the winner in relief. The Tigers scored eight times in the fifth to flip the game.

Southwestern Assemblies had entered the weekend 4-0 before the Tigers took 3 of 4.
