Mary Steffes with the Humane Society gave its yearly report at the city commission meeting on February 7. The report comes a s a result of the Fix-a-cat program which is designed to control the population of feral cats in McPherson. 218 vouchers for spay or neutering were reported in 2016. The report also included adoption numbers for the year. 138 cats taken in and 122 adopted out. 10 dogs taken in and all ten were adopted out. About 20 vouchers for spay or neuter procedures have been handed out already this year. Vouchers are available to residents living within McPherson city limits. Vouchers are good for $47 toward the cost of spay or neuter surgery at several vet clinics in McPherson. The pet owner is responsible for any charges exceeding the $47. Pets need to be up to date on vaccinations to receive the surgery. This program is for cats only.  For more on Fix-A-Cat call the Humane Society at 241-3682.
