Thursday is going to be a huge night for the McPherson High wrestling team.
The Bullpups host Wellington and Winfield for a triangular, with the latter match determining the AVCTL championship.
It’s also Senior Night as this is the Bullpups’ last competition before the regional meet next week at Buhler.
MHS is 4-0 in D-III matches and Winfield is the last roadblock between the Bullpups and a perfect league season.
MHS opens at 5 p.m. against Wellington and it’s hoped after Winfield and Wellington clash, the Bullpups and Vikings throw down about 7 p.m.
“We saw both schools at Rose Hill,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “Both teams seem to have their firepower towards the back of their lineups. They should be very competitive duals.”
Kretzer is anticipating his team being sky-high emotionally as it’s a chance for the Bullpups to complete a run of the league table. MHS has lost only twice overall in dual matches this year.
The Bullpups have drawn big crowds for their home matches this season and with so much on the line, the Auxiliary Gym should be packed.
