The goal of the McPherson High boys swimming team has been to win the league championship.

It can fulfill that dream Saturday.

MHS will be competing in the AVCTL Championships at Wichita, with Divisions II, III and IV together. The Bullpups have been remarkably consistent this year with no lower than a third-place finish in any meet and have two team victories to their credit.

Andover, Andover Central, Maize South, El Dorado, Wichita Collegiate, Winfield and Rose Hill join the Bullpups — teams MHS has seen plenty of.

“Andover Central is about the same size as us and has about the same number of state qualifiers as we do, so it's really going to come down to who performs,” MHS coach Matt Morrow said. “We have faced them four times this season and won twice.”

The Bullpups could get “chunk points” from its relay teams.

“Our 200 medley relay of Will Powers, Eric Gaeddert, Carson Stone and Dawson VanGoethem and our 400 free relay of Will, Gavin Soukup, Dawson and Eric are both ranked ahead of all the league teams,” Morrow said. “Our focus all season is to try and win an AVCTL League championship for McPherson. I think it's been about 10 years since that last happened.”

Meet time is 1 p.m. at the Wichita Northwest YMCA.
