ATCHISON — After starting the year 3-1, Central Christian College’s baseball team lost three games to Benedictine College over the weekend, two of them in heart-breaking fashion.

After the Ravens pounded CCC 11-1 on Friday, Central played them tough on Saturday but lost a pair of one-run verdicts, 5-4 and 3-2.

A summary:

• Benedictine 11, Central 1 — The Tigers came out slow, giving up three runs in the first and four in the second.

Hunter Wilcher had the only Tiger hit. Bryan Scott took the loss.

• Benedictine 5, Central 4 — The Tigers let a 4-0 lead get away as the Ravens scored the game’s final five runs, including one in the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off win.

Central was held to six hits by six different players. Zane Howard had two RBIs. He also took the loss in relief after Reggie Thomas had thrown five solid innings.

• Benedictine 3, Central 2 — The Ravens pushed across a run in the fifth inning to break a 2-all tie as again the CCC bats didn’t get a lot accomplished.

Wilcher, Caleb Gorman and Nate Patterson all had two hits for CCC. Landon Stevens took the loss despite a fine outing.

Central, now 3-4, hosts McPherson College on Tuesday, with first pitch 6 p.m.
