The Buhler girls started the game here Friday by not guarding McPherson High's Riley Hett as they went to a junk defense, daring her to shoot.

Did she ever make them pay.

Hett made 5 of 6 shots in the first quarter for 13 points, not to mention coming up with 5 steals on the defensive end and went on to score 16 to lead the Bullpups to a 74-31 rout as they once again played lights-out on "Think Pink" Night.

The Bullpups are now 8-0 in AVCTL Division III and can win the league title outright on Tuesday when they play Circle at Towanda. The Bullpups also have clinched the top sub-state spot with a 15-3 overall record.

Hett finished her monster first half with 16 points, 5 steals and 4 assists and then played sparingly in the second half as she didn't add to her point total.

"She really played hard and got after it," MHS coach Chris Strathman said. "I told her after the game whether the shots were falling or not, she gives us that kind of effort good things are going to happen. I was really proud of her. They didn't guard her and she got open looks. That may change when we play them again in two weeks (in the sub-state)."

Taylor Robertson shook off the junk defense to score 24 points to lead the Bullpups and Mandi Cooks chipped in with 15.

"The effort was sustained throughout and that's what we like to see," Strathman said. "Overall I thought the effort was there, the girls were sharing the basketball, finding open shooters or kicking it ahead for layups and just playing team basketball."

MHS led 47-17 at half despite committing 14 fouls, which led to the Crusaders parading to the foul line 19 times, making 15. But they were just 1 of 7 from the field.

MHS forced 21 turnovers in the half, which led to 30 points.

Buhler finished the game with an odd stat line as it made just 3 of 18 field goals, but was white-hot at the foul line by making 21 of 25. The Crusaders also threw it away 28 times, resulting in 35 points.

The MHS JVs doubled up the Crusaders 72-36 and head into the final week of the season undefeated. Andrea Sweat's 16 points were tops, Lakyn Schieferecke added 12 while Hannah Hageman chipped in with 10.

The C-team was pushed in a 26-20 victory in what was supposed to be a two-quarter game, but went overtime. Sweat led the Bullpups with 11 points. The C-team also is undefeated.
