5 Bullpup wrestlers make state

BUHLER — Five McPherson High wrestlers have qualified for the Class 4A State Tournament, including two who came away with regional championships on Saturday.

Rhett Edmonson at 106 and Austin Eldredge at 138 captured championships, with Edmonson winning his title match 4-3, while Eldredge, as he has done so often, won by a technical fall. He is the all-time leader in Kansas for T-falls.

Scott Radke took third, winning his final match 12-0 at 145. Placing fourth were Brynton Crews at 132 and Bailey Yarborough at 182.

The state meet begins Friday at Salina.

Getting through for Smoky Valley were Noah Lackey at 138, Beck Elliott at 182 and Allan Wampler at 195. Lackey and Elliott placed third and Wampler was fourth.

MHS took seventh in the team standings with 106 points, 1 1/2 points behind Buhler. Smoky Valley was eighth with 68. Abilene was the runaway winner with 215.
