TOPEKA — It was one of the most successful state meets ever for the McPherson High boys swimming team on Saturday

The Bullpups placed seven and their coach, Matt Morrow, was named Kansas’ Class 5-1A Coach of the Year.

MHS, despite its smallish numbers, took 10th out of 31 teams that scored. MHS had 105 points to finish just behind Kansas City Turner, which scored 110.

Wichita Heights and Maize, just as expected, finished 1-2 with 242 and 181 points, respectively.

The Bullpups had finalists in many events and also had a couple in the consolation round. Dawson VanGoethem and Will Powers won their respective consolation events.

Eric Gaeddert will go down as one of the top swimmers in MHS history as he made the finals in the 50 and 100 freestyles for the second straight year and also competed on two relay teams Saturday that made the finals.
