KINGMAN — Smoky Valley’s boys held off a furious rally by Kingman on Thursday to end their basketball regular season on a high note.
Smoky Valley edged Kingman 54-52 as the Eagles charged back with 22 points in the fourth quarter, only to come up short.
The Vikings, who are entering the postseason on a hot streak, were led by Brett Heitschmidt with 16 points and Nick Reinert chipped in with 15. The Vikings took command in the third quarter by outscoring the Eagles, 21-11.
The Viking girls had opened the night with a 46-33 loss to the high-powered Eagles, who are one of the best teams in Class 3A. Other than the first quarter, when the Vikings were outscored 12-4, they played right with the Eagles.
Katie Bellah led the Vikings with 9 points.
