Central Christian College’s baseball team and Morningside College of Iowa wound up playing a tripleheader here Saturday, with the Tigers winning two of three to improve to 6-9 on the season.

Central won the first two games 9-5 and 4-2, before Morningside escaped town with one win in a close game, 9-8.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday at Tabor, which is ranked No. 10 in the country.

• Central 9, Morningside 5 — The Tigers used a pair of four-run innings — the third and fifth — to pull away to the victory. Big-time newcomer Hunter Wilcher was the story, smashing two homers and driving in six runs. Kenny Cordova drove in the other three, while Mario Rivera added two hits. Keaton Snyder logged five innings to pick up the win and Landon Stevens finished up.

• Central 4, Morningside 2 — Reggie Thomas was nails on the mound as he pitched into the sixth inning before Bryan Scott and Zane Howard finished up, with Howard netting save. Central scored three of its runs in the third and broke a 3-all tie with a run in the sixth. Howard had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers.

• Morningside 9, Central 8 — The Tigers were three outs away from a clean sweep, but Morningside charged in the final inning with three runs to pull out the win. Howard homered for the Tigers and drove in two runs, while Rivera added two hits as did Cordova. Troy Carrigan added two RBIs.
