TOPEKA — Rory Whorton of the McPherson Aqua Pups competed this weekend in the Short Course Swimming Championships.

“Considering this was his first meet on this level, which features competition from the entire state of Kansas, and about half of Missouri (from Kansas City to Columbia),  I thought was it a solid effort,” McPherson coach Kyle Banman said.

Whorton qualified in the 50 freestyle and 100 free, taking 18th in both.

He also competed in the 50 backstroke and 100 individual medley, cutting his time 5:12 seconds in the 100 IM.

Here are his times:

100 Free - 1:14.87

50 Back - 44.89

50 Free - 33.02

100 IM - 1:36.42

Matthew Powers and Will Powers qualified for the event, but did not attend. Will has qualified for the Region VIII sectionals next month in Columbia, Mo.

Also qualified are Dawson VanGoethem and Eric Gaeddert.
