WICHITA — McPherson College’s softball team is just 5-10 on the season, but it’s in every game.

The Bulldogs went 0-2 on Friday in the Friends Invitational, but both losses were by a run. Six of their 10 losses so far have been by a single tally.

• Texas Wesleyan 5, Mac 4 — The Bulldogs were down 5-2 before making it close at the end.

Both teams had 10 hits. Mac was led by Jessica Jones (two hits, two RBIs), Jasmine Curiel (two hits) and Kortney Jones (two hits). Sydney Lang threw two scoreless innings of relief after Kylee Martin started the game.

• University of Science and Arts 3, Mac 2 — When Christie Betker is on the mound, Mac can play with anybody.

Science and Arts has been a perennial national power, but Betker had it silenced until the sixth inning when it scored twice to tie the game. Mac wound up losing in the eighth inning.

Betker threw a terrific game, not walking a batter and fanning five. Curiel and Jordynn Corea had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs play three more games today in Wichita against MidAmerica Nazarene, Peru State and Hastings College, all bigger schools.
