NEWTON — McPherson Middle School’s wrestling team came away with three champions this weekend from the season-ending Pioneer League Tournament.

Lorenzo Cruzen, Devin Frantz and Neill Raymond all took first place in their respective divisions. The Bullpups were fifth as a team.

“I thought we finished off the season well,” MMS coach Kaden Kretzer said. “Some brackets had some stiff competition, but I really feel that a lot of the kids wrestled their hearts out and that is really all you can ask for. Coaching almost an entire team of first- and second-year wrestlers, it's crucial to express that success is not always to be measured by wins and losses, it's mostly about your outlook and how you move on and grow from your struggles. I have seen a tremendous amount of progress in this year’s team and i know that if they all stick with it and keep paying the price that their future will be very promising.”
