There’s more than one sharpshooter in the Robertson family.

Alex Robertson, whose sister Taylor was named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year on Monday, carved out his own impressive niche over the weekend.

Alex competed in the Elks Hoop Shoot Regional in Denver after winning the local, district and state competitions in the 10-11 age division.

He made 24 of 25 free throws and is in a division that shoots with a regulation basketball from regulation distance.

He also was the top overall shooter in the competition. He won a shoot-off by going 5 for 5.

He now will compete in the National Elks Hoop Shoot April 22 in Chicago and he’s earned an all-expenses-paid trip. He will be among 12 finalists in his age division from all over the country.

This is the second time he has qualified for nationals.

The winners of the national contest receive a trophy and have their names inscribed on a plaque in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. Anyone wishing to send Alex a message for when he arrives in Chicago can do so at They can also watch the results of the contest live on the hoop shoot home page the day of the contest
