McPherson College’s softball team is red-hot going into its KCAC opener.
The Bulldogs made their final tune-up before Wednesday’s conference opener at Friends by dismantling Haskell twice here Saturday to run their winning streak to eight games. Mac was a 24-0, 13-1 winner as it moved past the .500 mark at 14-12. Their improvement has been remarkable as they were 9-39 last year.
• Mac 24, Haskell 0 — This one featured 22 hits from the Bulldogs, who led 12-0 after three innings, then scored 12 runs in the fourth.
There were hitting stars up and down the lineup, the biggest being Jessica Jones (4 for 5, 5 runs scored), Jasmine Curiel (3 RBIs), Judith Salazar (3 hits, 3 RBIs), Kortney Jones (3 RBIs), Jourden Masero (2 RBIs) and Jessica Knoeber (2 RBIs). Kortney Jones had a homer and double.
Sydney Lang threw a two-hitter and fanned nine for the win.
• Mac 13, Haskell 1 — The Bulldogs scored at least three runs in each of their four-at bats to complete the sweep.
Offensive leaders were Jessica Jones (3 hits, 3 runs), Curiel (2 RBIs), Masero (3 RBIs), Knoeber (3 RBIs) and Brittany Childs (2 hits, 2 RBIs).
Kylee Martin scattered four hits to pick up the win.
