LEAVENWORTH — After last weekend’s rousing three-game sweep of Ottawa University and a win over Central Christian College on Tuesday, McPherson College’s baseball team was full of confidence as it took on struggling Saint Mary, which entered Saturday just 3-19 overall.

But the Spires took a pin to Mac’s balloon by sweeping both games, dropping the Bulldogs to 3-5 in the KCAC and 11-17 overall. The teams play another game today.

• Saint Mary 10, Mac 9 — This was a killer. Down 3-0 after five innings, the Bulldogs exploded for eight runs in the sixth for a seemingly safe lead. But Saint Mary scored six runs in the eight to stun the Bulldogs.

Lane Fleming (3 hits), Dylan Klava (2 hits, 2 RBIs), Jackson Goodmiller (2 hits) and Trent Smith (2 hits) led the Bulldog offense.

• Saint Mary 3, Mac 1 — The Bulldogs had five players collect one hit each. Fleming drove in the only run. Matthew Green pitched well in defeat as he didn’t walk a batter in going the route.
