LEAVENWORTH — Saint Mary completed a three-game sweep of McPherson College’s baseball team on Sunday with a 10-6 victory in a single, nine-inning game.
It was a disappointing weekend for the Bulldogs as they were taking on a Spires team that had entered the series just 3-19 on the season. Also, Mac was coming off four straight wins and playing its best baseball.
The Bulldogs trailed the entire way, but pulled within 7-6 after 7 1/2 innings. But the Spires scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.
The Bulldogs actually out-hit the Spires 10-9, but they were all singles. Lane Fleming collected three and Bryce Strecker had two. Trent Smith drove in two runs.
Mac is now 3-6 in the KCAC and 11-18 overall. It plays two games Tuesday at Southwestern Christian before coming home Friday and Saturday for a series with Oklahoma Wesleyan.
